I have a dream

I have a dream! My dream is that the Osceola School Board (and District) would disappear, yeap you heard me right, ok so here it goes. The OSB runs a budget of roughly $830,000,000 yes that’s right, 6 zero’s that’s less than 170 million short of a billion! But in this age of trillion dollar deficits who’s counting?
Now, as you have probably heard all the local school boards have been crying the blues about their "shrinking" budgets, well let’s see @ 830mil divided by 53k public school students that comes out to about 15k per student, yes that’s right that is how much the OSB spends for little Johnny every year.
So I did some checking around, Heritage Christian School charges $3,500 per year, Holy Redeemer $6,000 per year, and Heartland $ 5,500 per year. Are our public school children better educated? You be the judge!
Ronald Reagan had it right, his dream was to abolish the Federal department of education but the democratic congress of the time and politically correct Republicans would not have it. RR contended that parents and teachers could much better use funds dedicated for education (for those of you in Rio Linda that would be school vouchers). Public education is no longer about teaching and learning but about complying with mandates from Tallahassee and Washington DC. These mandates sap the life out of educators and create fund wasting bureaucracies and that is how we get school budgets in the thousands of millions, and poorly educated students.
This year Osceola School District teachers have been laid off, re- assigned, re-shuffled, work loads increased, benefits cut and raises frozen for teachers only. (I know of district execs which actually got raises). The OSB raised our property taxes while people are loosing jobs left and right! If I was an elected member of the OSB I would be dusting off my resume. If you think the town hall meetings were something, well you haven’t seen anything yet, I speak with my neighbors and co-workers and the consensus is that "we are mad as hell" and we are not going to take it anymore, we will see you in November and then again may be not.
