Sometimes patience pays off!

Photobucket

Sometimes patience pays.....My wife and I had to get to the beach before we went back to work..we've been trying..but it's been so cold and busy :%

Anyways today we got up late of course, and didn't make it out to Cocoa Beach till almost 4.... so I ditched the getting "live bait at the river idea"and after getting my new penn 6600 spooled...we headed strait for 14th av. The water didn't look so rough and there was a SW blowing...Looking pretty good for some surf fishing I thought...wrong!!!!!!!!!!!! there was a current from hell running south to north...and the water was full I mean full of weeds...Tried that for about 45 mins..and although the hun was nice and confi,,I said sorry babe but this isn't working where gonna have to fish the Port.

So we packed up, and off we where to one of my favorite places on the river where I don,'t have to get wet to catch live bait. Threw the net a few times chatted with a couple of tourist and locals ans in a few mins I had about 8 nice pins. Ha seems like a snool kind of night. Headed to mullet road but my fave spot was already taken so we headed for the park.

I threw a pin fish close to the bridge manifolds and a few mins I felt my bait getting nervous, aja I said! here mr snook!...but then nothing...got pretty slow, tried some frozen shrimp but only catfish where hitting that :(. Heard some mullet jumping and decided to try the cast net..got me a couple a fingerling mullet and a couple of pin fish. Put the mullet in a free line with a bobber and few minutes later a nice blue hit it! alright things are looking up!.....30 min passed nothing.

Heard some more mullet jumping and I followed their wake between the bridge and the road..I know there are some rocks there but I said what the hell...started to pull the net and dam!!! It felt heavy gosh not a rock, then i felt the wiggling and then the flashes I had netted a school of 3-4 pound mullet about 15 altogether!!!I had trouble pulling the net in, thought about calling the hun for help but pushed through and brought it in!...OK time to go home...came in filleted a couple and made me some ceviche...froze the rest to clean the next day. And yes, there will be some mullet smoking at the Gomez's
